Purple Hearts Joined on stage by Stone Roses man!
Manchester Club Academy, October 17th 2009

The Purple Hearts stormed into Manchester on Saturday as part of the final shows of their reunion year to be greeted by an ecstatic audience and were joined on stage by Stone Roses & Primal scream legend Mani.

The faithful who gathered at the Manchester Club Academy were treated to a classic 'best of' set from the Mod heroes, opening aptly with 'I've been away' from debut album Beat That, followed swiftly with a version of the single 'Jimmy', other highlights of the set included 'Can't help thinking about me', 'Concrete Mixer' and the 1980 45 'My Life's a jigsaw'.

After another outing for the 2009 song 'Urban Soul' (it sounds better each time they play it) the band coaxed the former Stone Roses bassist up on stage to play percussion on 'I can't stay here' to rapturous applause from the audience. The set concluded with a great version of 'Gun of life' segueing into 'Land of a thousand dances' and the classic ' Millions Like Us'.

The band were persuaded back on stage for an encore of 'Gloria' (after Jeff's bass was retrieved from the audience) and the Small Faces 'Watcha gonna do about it' before ending the night with a house lights on, curfew busting, 'Just to please you'. A fantastic night was had by all, lets hope it's not 30 years till they return to Manchester, but if it is, what a way to go!!
