Side 2 Extraordinary Sensations (Manton/Stebbing)

Perhaps the most iconic of the Hearts Fiction singles, 'Frustration' was released in November 1979 backed by 'Extrodinary Sensations'. Simon Stebbings jangly guitar intro has echos of later classic indie acts like the Go-Betweens' or Orange Juice, and is held together by the solid bass & drums of Jeff & Gary.
The song has the deceivingly slow opening lines of "I'm going 'round and 'round in circles, just a thinking of this mess", Before launching into the powerhouse chorus. Another crisp Chris Parry production, this surely must be one of the great singles of 1980!
The pop art sleeve was designed by Brett Ewins (more famous for his work with Marvel comics www.brettewins.co.uk) is a Lichtensteinesque face framing the songs lyrics over the 'Lambretta style' band logo. The b-side also gave birth to cult MOD fanzine 'Extraordinary Sensations' devised and edited by DJ/Acid Jazz boss Eddie Piller.
The single sneaked into the lower reaches of the charts, with good reviews but limited airplay, soon disappeared.
* There was also an Italian pressing of the single on the red Polydor label, this is now very hard to find. See image below & Discogs listing.
Both tracks now available on the re-issued Beat That CD!
